With all the buzz surrounding the launch of Google Chromebooks today, you'll need a Google official excuse for his metaphors a bit "mixed. Trying to explain why companies need to empty the old model web-based PC O / S The Chrome project manager Rajen Business Desktop Shethcompared a car that loses value when leaving the game. The Chromebook, however, is like a house remodeling.

Gone are the days when a new employee must wait for an appointment with someone in IT to implement the system. No software installation required. No driver installation required. Google says the new user can be running on the system within four minutes – and that includes unboxing time. Do not worry about missing files. Everything can be done remotely. And when an employee loses a laptop, or accidentally fell in the shower, a new exhibition, come and ready to go. Chrome OS for businesses, Google is stressing the three A, S: simple, safe and fast.

"The Chromebook that we have today will not be as good as Chromebook you have six weeks from now," he said. New versions of all programs as Google Docs and Google Apps for companies, most Anti-virus protection is automatically updated in real time. Meanwhile, Google points, companies are free to add your applications and even create private clouds. "An administrator must not touch," said Sheth.

And the maintenance and updating of desktop running from 3000 to 4000 in comparison with $ lifecycle. The claims Chromebook company equipment companies save 50 percent, or about $ 3000 for a total cost of ownership for three years. So why not just businesses can get a Dell for the same price? Well, because Dell does not come with anything else, "Sheth said. You have to purchaseanti-virus, backup software and management.

And the departments that rely on specialized software to do their job – and even to finance services that require advanced Excel functions – perhaps less enthusiastic about the arbitration should proceed to a Chromebook. Many IT departments are reluctant to go into the unknown, with a completely new system.

MSFT does not seem to highlight this (maybe I'm too busy and Phone7 KINECTS and now Skype), but if anyone ever thank all MSFT, should excel. A granite bench, keyless / sink is no fun. A machine can not make MS Excel – with all its formulas, graphs can not use SMB. A car with a sexy look, I think Google is not very attractive, but only if the version of "trailer" of Excel, not many would be interested in SMB. Not only accounting, but secretaries, managers, engineers, travel agents, full service industry, including the use of Excel as oxygen and swear by it. Let's face it – MS Excel is the application * * in our lives.

I think its really about their backup system is how I read it, that they didnt have as good a backup, Amazon that is, did not have as good backups as everybody thought, and when parts of their storage network started going out there was no rollover to the backups and people lost their websites including Quora, FourSquare, Reddit, things like that. So did you guys notice any outages? I didnt really notice much because I dont use any of those websites, so did yall notice anything?. Stephan: Well, I think the big story last week and into this week has been the Amazon EC2 outage, and the risk of the cloud, and thats the article I have, its from PC World and it goes into some — brings in some questions about the cloud, and then I also have a VentureBeat article that talks about exactly what happened and what the issues were.

Theres this blog post on the Netflix blog from the end of last year, so from December of 2010, talking about — its called Five Lessons Weve Learned Using AWS, and theyre talking about the way theyve handled their infrastructure. And I guess the most interesting thing in there for me is their system called the Chaos Monkey, are you guys familiar with the Chaos Monkey?. Louis: Yeah. A number of blogs have come out and sort of said that one main article that I see linked to a lot of places is an article on the OReilly blogs by a guy sort of talking about designing for failure and how its possible to design around this kind of event and that The Cloud sort of in theory should be forcing people to think about their application architecture in a way that its not dependent on any one virtual resource or availability zone to keep functioning. Theres a couple of things that have come out in the wake of this. And a number of people have pointed out either on Twitter or in blogs that one of the interesting things about this is to look not at the websites that went down like FourSquare or Reddit, but to look at the websites that didnt go down; theres a lot of people using AWS that were unaffected and a lot of people have pointed at Netflix as one great example of that.

Patrick: And I think that the explanation of whether or not its needed, and also the type of explanation you provide really depends on the service that you are, so box.net for example is this file kind of hosting service, its about keeping your files accessible, whatever those files may be, and collaboration and sharing things in The Cloud, and that certainly is about access, thats a key selling point is that youll be able to access your stuff. So for them it makes a lot of sense to say this is way your stuff will be accessible, this is why your stuff will be secure, because we do this, this, this and this, because if they didnt say that then people would wonder well how do I know that Ill be able to access that document when Im in Aruba on vacation, on Friday night at 2:00 a.m. or something. So thats part of their business, where if you look at like a Walmart for example thats not a conversation Walmart needs to have except in the nature of security; if people want to know why is my data secure with Walmart, why is my credit card information secure with Walmart, then that will be the conversation that they might want to have explaining how and why their website is safe, but no one cares about Walmart always being up necessarily other than to get and buy their stuff as soon as possible, so the different businesses kind of dictate that explanation and what it should contain.

Which makes sense I guess, but they dont rely on just that because 20% of images that have nudity also have a face, so they use a lot of different things, chat reputation, social graph, motion in the video and other factors, and they pair that with a human element to take care of both false negatives and images that are simply decided to be safe, so they still do sample those images those images that are considered safe so that a human can lay eyes on it and really see if it is safe or not. And how they review that content is kind of a two-tier review system where if two reviewers find your behavior to be inappropriate youre banned from the site, and those people are on staff 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, and they have the goal of reviewing streams with a delay of no more than five minutes, so I almost think its an interesting conversation not only for moderation but for developers who are thinking of doing anything like this, the live nature of the Web, how there is kind of a responsibility to monitor your content. Well, honestly I dont think Ive heard of this either, but theyre serving up to 750,000 video chats per day, live video chats, and so they have run into the problem that Chatroulette ran into which is for lack of a better term seeing a lot of private parts on their live video chat (laughter). So they have kind of put together this system of monitoring their video chats thats both human and algorithmic where they capture and analyze thousands of images a second from hundreds of thousands of daily video streams, and they sample the streams at random, and they have an algorithm that is based on many factors but one of the things they found is that an image with a face in it is five times less likely to contain nudity (laughter). And when the service launched, when myYearbook launched their live video chat, they found that one in every ten Chatroulette video chats was obscene, so 10% of all video chats was obscene, that might even seem a little low looking back on it (laughter), but they didnt want that on their service. Patrick: Okay.

Louis: Yeah, thats pretty — its a big, big effort on their part. I guess not a lot of sort of startup style companies could afford to put people in front of that much video to moderate it constantly, but its interesting that they do have that first algorithmic layer of protection which might be really useful, I mean assuming this sort of technology becomes more common; if youre just starting out it might be a good thing to just throw in some automatic moderation to start with and then once you get to a point where you can afford to have a person look through the — to clear out any false positives or false negatives.

Patrick: Just to throw some data behind this just to see how successful its been, they sampled a Chatroulette video stream, 1500 video streams from Chatroulette recently, and they found that 1.9% of them had some form of nudity in it, so one out of 50 basically. And another interesting thing that he pointed out is that he doesnt necessarily believe that identity, like using Facebook Connect, plays much of a role in discouraging abuse because people did this on I guess there was an iPhone app called iChatter which you could be identified through and people still did this sort of thing. On their service they find one in 1,000 that have it, so thats where they have found success, theyve been able to limit that drastically. So, what he believes is having any sort of login at all discourages people, what they do is they actually fingerprint the devices people use to access the site through a service called ThreatMetrix, and then when they ban someone they ban both the user and their device so that theyre unable to access the site at all. So I thought that was interesting especially with the proliferation of Facebook Connect around the Web versus having more of a site-based login and you could have a little more control over.

And then to do with the file size theres also a difference where CSS3 total file size download is about 10% smaller and about 45% fewer HTTP requests required because you dont have all those little separate background images for the corners and such. So first of all when he codes the site in CSS3 it takes 49 minutes to design up his site using CSS3, and using CSS, the regular image based method just takes 73 minutes, so its about 30% faster. And the results in terms of the load time, the CSS version loads in 3.3 seconds and the plain CSS version loads in 4.7 seconds, so above and beyond what were used to thinking about in terms of the advantages of CSS3 being its more fun to work with theres also some really, really practical advantages in terms of page speed. And what hes done is hes come up with comparisons both in the time it took to code and on the load time of the two sites, and the results are pretty impressive. But what the author of this article has done is decided to try and do an actual comparative speed test, sort of a somewhat scientific approach to this process. So we hear a lot about CSS3 and a lot of times what we hear has to do with just how much fun it is for developers to be able to do this stuff that used to be harder to do, so things like rounded corners or drop shadows or text shadows or gradients or anything like that, that used to take a lot of tweaking around and playing in Photoshop that now you can do easily with CSS3, yeah, okay thats great. Louis: Yeah, thats what we need, thats the next thing. Alright, well Ive got a story to throw in here; it will be my first contribution to the panel so hopefully it goes well. So hes come up with this fairly straightforward design for a one-page site, and hes coded it up first of all using CSS3 so using new techniques like border-radius and box-shadow, and then hes gone through and coded up the entire site again for the exact same look but using more traditional techniques, so using background images to fake rounded corners or fake drop shadows. So the story I came up with was a blog post on Smashing Magazine from just this past week, and the title is CSS3 versus CSS, a Speed Benchmark.

Shopzilla did a study, well, they optimized their site, they sped up their site by five seconds, increased their conversion rate by between 7 and 12%, Mozilla shaving 2.2 seconds off their landing pages increased downloading conversions by over 15%. So if you look for example Yahoo did a study where they found a 400 millisecond slowdown resulted in a 5 to 9% drop in full page traffic. So there is some data out there that would seem to indicate that these what seems like small differences, and it seems like if youre trying to see okay which one loads faster and I load them both in my browser and they kind of look the same, like its a difference between what is this about 3 seconds versus 4 seconds for these two versions of the site? But the data seems to show that even those differences that can seem imperceptible to you will still affect the way you interact with the site even if its on a maybe not fully conscious level. Louis: Theres an impact; so the article links to another article on Steve Souders’ webpage where hes talking about the impact of performance optimizations like this on sort of traffic because you just get fewer bounces and a few extra clicks, so hes got some statistics from search engines who did some studies on this.

The Send button just has like a little talk box, talk bubble I should say, in it where it looks like someones saying something like its a chat or a comment page almost, not necessarily send which might be more tied to email, an email icon, or a message, an envelope, so I dont know if thats going to hurt it just from a design perspective, but I guess it will be interesting as people play with it to learn how effective it is. And the thing about it though that I noticed when I look at the two icons next to each other on this article is the Facebook like icon which just allows you to like a story on your Facebook wall, so thats kind of the difference between the two, but it has the Facebook icon on it which may seem simple but that goes a long way toward getting people to actually click that button, because theyre on Facebook they know what Facebook is. Patrick: Right.

Looking over the changelog really quickly its notable that this is probably the first release, or the first beta release of jQuery that hasnt included any really show-stopping features, most of whats on the changelog there is really just performance enhancements or bug fixes to do with specific browsers behaving in different ways and theyve cleaned things out a little bit and rewritten a few methods for consistency, but overall Im not seeing anything really major in that so obviously its good news for developers because its always good to have new versions of this stuff, but maybe jQuerys just reaching the point where its so mature that theres nothing really significant that needs to be added to it and its just all about fine-tuning from on out. Louis: So one more story this week that I found I think was just this morning, The jQuery team announced the release of the beta version of jQuery 1.6 so thats of course interesting to just about everyone who does web development because just about everyone uses jQuery these days.

Once a person has been added as a member of a ZangZing album, he or she can add images in three ways: by loading from a hard drive to import images from other sites like Facebook, Flickr and Instagram mail, or e-mail a single photo album email from a smartphone or computer. ZangZing aims to facilitate more people to add a photo album online only.

These are photos and must be central, not surrounded by ads, "Ansari said in an interview last week." Alsonot we bombard the user with information about F-stops and the camera settings immediately, even if such information is available if you want .. ZangZing in a stunning, but the company CEO José Ansari is based on the user interface polished, streamlined look to attract a devoted base of users demanding. "We believe that design is a key factor for us.

It seems that when the explicit choice, most people avoid sharing their photos with the world: Ansari, said that more than 50 percent of users chose to test your private photos ZangZing somehow. Appointment of a level of confidentiality is essential to the creation of albums, rather than an obscure that only advanced users can find. Although ZingZang UI is really smooth, and the ability to import images that are already hosted on other websites like Facebook is nice, what I find most interesting is ZangZing its focus on creating an album privacy. When ZangZing, users are asked to define the parameters in one of three ways: password protected, hidden (visible to anyone with management), or the public. "The message is really what counts ZangZing privacy," he said.

Ansari worked with heavy blows as co-founder, COO Kathryn Corro was part of the founding team of Real Estate Investment Group and CTOMauricio firmRockpoint Alvarez was formerly vice-director of technology at BEA Systems, the software company now owned by Oracle infrastructure . ZangZing Ansari is not the first time in the technology implementation rodeo. He co-founded and sold several companies, most recently, Vontu, a loss prevention company data acquired by Symantec in 2007 for $ 350 million.

ZangZing co-founders of the company has funded $ 1.5 million in its capital, and Ansari said he had no intention of seeking investments outside soon. ZangZing currently has six full-time employees and several contractors. The company expects to earn money through a traditional freemium photo storage model will free up a point, and users who want to store more than pay a fee to-be-determined monthly or annual.

Wider adoption of 3G voice calls for Skype could hint at a future Skype phone. The free software, found in Google’s Android Market, includes mobile calls on the Skype network, instant message text chat, call forwarding, voicemail, and low-rate calls to mobile numbers and landlines. An updated Skype client for Google Android devices is available beginning Wednesday, with two notable improvements: a security patch and support for voice calls over 3G networks around the world, including the U.S.

Using software, this exposed data could becapturedand sent elsewhere, without the handset owner’sknowledge. Essentially, a third-party application could exploit the fact that both Skype profile information and instant messages were cached locally and unprotected on a handset. The newest client patches a security hole that was found last weekandacknowledgedby the Skype team. With today’s update, the data is now protected and can’t be exploited by a third-party application.

Closing the security gap is important, but so too is support for calls over mobile broadband networks in the U.S. Hacks and workarounds could be used to enable 3G Skype calls on other carrier networks, but those are no longer needed due to the most recent software update. Last year, Skype partnered exclusively with Verizon Wireless as the only carrier to allow 3G Skype calls, thus limiting Skype usage on other networks here.

The device can do everything my smartphone does: run the same apps, use location-based services with GPS, surf the web and more. Adding support for Skype callscould be the final puzzle piece in my mobile communications plan. The functionality is there in terms of hardware, but it’s blocked by Samsung, likely at the request of the U.S carriers. But the one key item it can’t do, and the main reason I still take a smartphone along with me, is easily handle voice calls. I often carry the Samsung Galaxy Tab, a 7-inch Android tablet, with me everywhere. In some other countries, Galaxy Tab owners can and do use the tablet for cellular voice calls.

With the latest Skype update and support for 3G calling, however, I may be able to get away with onlycarrying my tablet. Does this set up the potential for a potential Skype-branded handset in the future? If the company can work another carrier deal — this time a data-only plan with no voice requirement — Skype could potentially power mobile conversations over Wi-Fi, 3G, 4G and beyond. I’ve successfully tested Google Voice forwarding to my SkypeIn number, so with a single phone number, voice calls could be routed to my tablet while on a 3G network.

The call sounded like any other voice call on a cellular network, but used only the data portion of T-Mobile’s network. Using Skype’s newest software, my smartphone just might have gained a 7-inch display, although I’ll have to test this solution over a longer term. I’ve already tested the new update on my Tab and had a voice call over T-Mobile’s 3G network with my son this morning.

Darren, I suspect you’re right: having Skype run all the time would likely hit the battery hard. When it is running, I’m reachable, of course. But for my use case (which I readily admit isn’t everyone else’s), I don’t need Skype running all the time. My wife and I both work from home, so I know she’s not calling me and pretty much anyone else calling wouldn’t be an urgent call. But by using Google Voice as my primary number, I can leave Skype off and get notifications when someone has called me and then return the call if needed. Again, not an ideal situation and not how mainstream consumers act; I simply mention it as a potential solution to the constant battery drain until that push solution you mention (an idea I love BTW!) arrives.

Isn’t Skype integration, like you seem to mention, a strong point of the Nokia N900 (and hopefully their future MeeGo related device)? I don’t know how much a constant 3G on connection will eat up in terms of data per minute or how much a video chat enabled 3G connection eats but the low data ceilings could prove to make it prohibitive. I know that once cellular voice is added to a device it requires a lot more testing from the FCC but I wish they included cellular voice in all Tablets.

Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful. There’s no reason I can think of. version of Skype for Android was limited to Verizon, but that’s no longer the case. I know that the earlier U.S. Your best bet is to download and try – I would do that for you if I had an Android device on Verizon’s network, but I don’t at the moment.

This is the saga does not know or care more, until David Fincher Social Network became the volume: Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg at Harvard classmates Hoodwink (and twins), Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss Facebook million profit.

Interestingly, with Facebook now $ 50 billion settlement watches Winklevoss million.I be upward of $ 160 from a legal point of view everything is relative, but says that treating all of us is the opportunity to make one or two million euros for the entire course of our lives.
